A follow-up to one of 2020’s most brutal and atmospheric action RPGs is officially on the way. Mortal Shell 2, the next installment in Cold Symmetry’s gritty souls-like franchise, has been revealed at SGF 2025—promising a grim, grotesque, and blood-soaked evolution of its predecessor’s combat and world design.

The original Mortal Shell was praised for its challenging gameplay, inventive “shell” possession mechanic, and stripped-back storytelling, which earned comparisons to FromSoftware’s Dark Souls series. Judging by early footage, Mortal Shell 2 retains the series’ signature oppressive tone but adds even more visual brutality and combat variety—this time including both swords and firearms.

A release window is set for 2026, and players eager to dive in early can sign up for the beta right now via the game’s Steam page.
