Bandai Namco has officially announced Code Vein 2, the long-awaited sequel to the 2019 action role-playing game that blended anime aesthetics with punishing, souls-like combat. The follow-up is currently slated for a 2026 release, with Steam wishlist options now live.
While details at Summer Games Fest were scarce, Code Vein 2 appears to build on the gothic, post-apocalyptic setting and high-intensity gameplay that defined the original. The first Code Vein, developed by Bandai Namco Studios and directed by Yuta Yamamoto, launched for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC in 2019. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, it quickly developed a cult following and sold over three million copies worldwide.
Known for its stylish combat, deep customization, and AI companion system, Code Vein carved out a niche for players looking for an anime-flavored alternative to Dark Souls. Its haunting world and emotionally-charged soundtrack—composed by Go Shiina—added a distinctive flair that helped the game stand out.
While no platforms have been confirmed yet for the sequel, it’s safe to assume Code Vein 2 will target current-gen hardware. With wishlist options now open on Steam, fans can expect more updates and possibly gameplay reveals later this summer.
